Meet One of Our Key People: Roberto Ulloa

August 22nd, 2010

Mi nombre completo es Roberto Carlos Ulloa Espinoza. Tengo 27 años. Mi familia Mi esposa Amy Duarte y mi Hija Amy Ulloa.

My name is Roberto Carlos Ulloa Espinoza. I’m 27 years old. My wife Amy Duarte and I have a daughter named Amy Ulloa. I studied system engineering in Managua, but I had to leave school because I didn’t have the financial resources to continue. (I have one year left to finish my degree.) Some years ago I received a scholarship from Fundacion Santa Helena to study English and this is what I study every Saturday in Managua. I’d like to finish my studies and become a professional so that I can give my family a better life.

For the Clinica Verde project I’m responsible for the warehouse. I receive all the materials in great quantities and then I give to the workers what they need every day. I give them the tools they need to work and I keep a small box for when we’re missing something and I go to the city of Boaco and buy it for the project to make sure the work doesn’t stop. I buy water for the project and coordinate other activities both inside and out for Clinica Verde.

I think Clinica Verde is a great idea. Nicaragua and Boaco needs this clinic. It’s already provided work to many who didn’t have jobs and when it’s built it will benefit many more providing jobs and benefitting the population in general by providing quality medical attention with compassion. The clinic will help to resolve health problems in the region and its surroundings. People ask me when I work, “When will the clinic be built? We need it.” This project will be a success.

Global Giving Visits CV

August 4th, 2010

Recently, Mark Skeith, a field officer for Global Giving, visited our land site and met with our Medical Director Dr. Armando Incer and Project Manager Johny Siman (above). Global Giving is an online marketplace that connects people to the causes and organizations they care about. We look forward to reading Mark’s report on his visit soon!

We keep moving forward …

July 7th, 2010

Construction continues on our clinic. This photo was taken at the beginning of July. Despite heavy rains in June, the project continues to move forward.

I visited the site last month and got a chance to meet with the crew. It’s pretty cool to see things taking shape! A special thanks to Robert Ulloa for overseeing the warehouse on the site. We’ve known Robert and his wonderful wife Amy for nearly 6 years and having them on the ground in Boaco is a great comfort to us!

Here’s a picture of Roberto inside the warehouse on the site:

And here’s a picture of some of the workers on the site. These guys are doing great work!

Also in June, I had a chance to meet in Managua with some officials from the Ministry of Health, along with our Project Manager Johny Siman. The meetings were very productive. I want to offer a special thanks to María de los Ángeles Alvarado, the head of international medical brigades, and Carolina Davila, the director of Medical Regulation. Both women were gracious and supportive of our efforts. We hope to work compatibly with the Ministry of Health of Nicaragua for many years to come!

Keep spreading the word about our work in the world, amigos!

June 1, Progress on Our Cistern

June 8th, 2010

This underground cistern is located at the core of our clinic. It will be used to collect rainwater.

And with winter starting in Nicaragua, there will be a lot of rain in the next few months. Hopefully, progress will continue without too many challenges.

Please continue to support our cause. We need you!
